Though small in land mass, Central America harbors exceptional biological and ecosystem diversity. Costa Rica, the hub of our grantmaking in Central America, covers just 0.03% of the earth’s surface yet contains approximately 4% of the world’s biodiversity. Progressive, pro-environment government policies have created innovative programs and institutions that can be used for testing and scaling-up new approaches to conservation.
