Greater Mekong Subregion
The Greater Mekong Sub-region is a diverse landscape composed of Lao PDR, Cambodia, Vietnam, Thailand, Myanmar (formerly Burma), and China’s Yunnan Province. Given the shifts in the world resource market, the specter of rapid development looms large in these emerging economies, with poor land use management, limited human and institutional capacity, and regional and international development pressures threatening local communities and biodiversity alike. Our work supports development of payments for ecosystem services models (PES), the management of protected areas, capacity building and training, and mediating the relationship between demand and resource countries in the region.
