Traditionally, foundations have a clear distinction and division between their investment portfolios and their grant portfolio, not only in staff responsible for each but also in how the resources are used.  blue moon believes that these divisions should be removed and that mission should drive both portfolios.  

blue moon uses natural, social and financial capital to implement new models in high biodiversity regions around the world.  In doing so, it regularly uses grant capital to stimulate new thinking and to demonstrate feasibility of these new models.  As these projects mature and remain viable alternatives, blue moon will potentially use program related investment (PRI) funds to finance the next growth phase of the project.  Ultimately, it is our intent to make our final investment in the project as a market rate impact investment.  Following the technology and/or the entrepreneurs through the entire process is our ideal method of investing.
