blue moon fund strongly believes that all of its financial resources should be used to accomplish the fund’s mission of increasing human and natural resilience in a changing and warming world.  This includes not only traditional grantmaking and program related investments (PRIs), but also mission driven market rate investments.  If all foundations examined their traditional investment portfolios and structured them to deploy all of their capital for their mission instead of singly working toward a maximized financial return, an enormous amount of resources could be available!  blue moon works to not only implement this philosophy within its own portfolio, but designs models with the hope of providing other foundations with partnership opportunities.  As the fund explores and gains experience with various investment strategies, the fund will develop a comprehensive written strategy which will incorporate grantmaking, program related investments and mission impact investing into an integrated approach.

Currently, blue moon is focused on mission impact investing opportunities as they relate to climate change and the carbon economy.  We are making early stage private equity investments and investments in limited partnerships and/or limited liability companies with very specific investment guidelines which fulfill our impact investing guidelines.
